Hanoi Instagram City Highlights Tour

A jeep, four hours, the shortlist of Hanoi shots. Composition notes included.

Hanoi's most photogenic places in one ride — choose a vintage Jeep, a green limo or a motorbike.

Quick answer

The Hanoi Instagram City Highlights Tour is a 4-hour open-air photo tour in a vintage UAZ-469 jeep. The route visits the top five Hanoi photo locations — Long Biên Bridge (1902) from below, Trấn Quốc Pagoda at golden hour, the B-52 bomber relic in a residential lake, the Train Street mid-passage window, and a Red River island viewpoint. Composition and lighting notes with the guide. Group $60, private $84.

Why we built this tour

Hanoi has a shortlist of photographs that work. Most tours take you past them. Few tours get you to them at the hour the light is right. The Instagram tour exists because we wanted to build the day that treats light as the itinerary rather than the itinerary as the itinerary.

The two departures — sunrise and golden hour — are not interchangeable. Sunrise is for Trấn Quốc Pagoda across still water and the Long Biên Bridge in mist. Golden hour is for the B-52 lake and the Train Street window. Pick based on which images you came for; your guide will tell you which stops are better in which light.

The jeep is deliberate. An open-air vehicle gives you angles a car cannot. Standing up in the back of a UAZ-469 for a sixty-second drive past Hanoi Opera House is itself a shot.

What this tour means

Photography and tourism have a difficult relationship — the shortlist of famous images has a tendency to flatten a city. We built this tour aware of that. The route is the famous five, but the guide's notes are about composition — where to stand, what to leave out, how to frame — not about which filter to apply. You leave with better craft, not just more content.

The B-52 bomber relic in Hữu Tiệp Lake is a residential site. It is a working apartment-block courtyard with a shot-down American warplane half-submerged in the lake families still live beside. We will tell you how to photograph it without being disrespectful. We will also tell you what residents prefer that you not photograph.

The experience

Four hours is a photographer's day. Five stops. Enough time at each for the shot and for alternative angles. The guide is the one person on this tour who is not a client, and they will carry a smaller mirrorless for reference, not to compete with yours.

You will be given about ten minutes at each stop before the group moves. Private tours get as long as the light. Expect a conversation about f-stops, long exposure, and when the automatic phone-camera mode is actually a good choice.

A day in the life

Minute-by-minute, in the order it happens.

  1. Long Bien Bridge — Photos over the Red River on Hanoi's most famous bridge.
  2. Red River Island — Banana plantations and village paths hidden beneath the bridge.
  3. Tran Quoc Pagoda — Hanoi's oldest pagoda, framed by West Lake.
  4. B-52 Victory relic — The remains of a B-52 bomber and the story of Hanoi in 1972.
  5. Phan Dinh Phung & Phung Hung murals — Tree-lined colonial villas, then colourful murals of old Hanoi life.
  6. Train Street — The narrow street where trains pass between homes.
  7. Old Quarter, French Quarter & egg coffee — A final drive past the Opera House and Trang Tien, then egg coffee at a lantern café before returning to your hotel.

Who it's for — and who it isn't

Yes, this is for you if…

  • Keen photographers of any level, phone or camera
  • Travel content creators
  • Couples wanting photographs they will actually keep
  • Returning Hanoi visitors who have done the standard sights

Probably not for you if…

  • First-time visitors who have not seen the standard sights yet
  • Travellers uninterested in photography
  • Groups who want long non-photo stops at each site — this is a shoot, not a sightseeing day
  • Guests who want posed studio-style portraiture — this is reportage-style

The soundtrack of this tour

The soundtrack of a photo tour is other photographers' shutters, your own shutter, and the city around you. In Hanoi the city is a louder presence than most photo tours anywhere, which is part of why the images work. The jeep gives you the sound of the open-air engine between stops. The stops themselves are the city's own sound.

Behind the scenes

Every vehicle on this tour is owned, registered and maintained by Eco Trip Asia — not rented from a third party by the hour. Daily pre-tour safety checks. Twice-yearly road authority inspections. One mechanic per fleet, who has been with us since before we had a licence number.

Your guide is on our payroll, not a freelance tour hunter picked up outside a hostel. Every guide completes a six-month training programme before leading a tour alone. The tour you take is the tour we would send our own cousins on.

Insurance: Eco Trip Asia's commercial passenger-service policy covers every guest for the duration of every tour (third-party and personal accident). First-aid trained guide. Emergency contact at the office +84 879 617 691.

Frequently asked

Will the guide take photos of us?

Yes — your guide knows the best angles and is happy to take photos with your phone or camera throughout the tour.

Which vehicle should I choose?

The Jeep is the most iconic for photos, the green limo is the most comfortable in hot or rainy weather, and the motorbike feels the most local. Add your choice in the booking notes.

What is the difference between the group and the private tour?

On the group tour you may share the experience with a few other travellers. The private tour is just for your party, with your own guide and vehicle, and the timing can be adapted to you.

What happens if it rains?

Tours run in rain or shine. We provide rain ponchos, and your guide may adjust the order of stops to keep you comfortable. If we have to cancel because the weather makes the tour unsafe, you can move it to another date free of charge or choose a full refund. If the tour goes ahead and you decide not to join, the deposit is not refundable, but you can still change your date.

How do I book this tour?

Click the button at the bottom of this page. You will be taken to ecotripasia.com/hanoi-instagram-tour-with-photographer/ — the operator's booking page. 15% deposit via PayPal (card or balance; 4% processing fee shown before paying). Balance in cash USD/VND or bank transfer on the tour day.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Date changes are free, subject to availability — your deposit transfers to the new date. If you cancel outright, the deposit is kept but your date can still be rescheduled. If we cancel for any reason (unsafe weather, government closures), you get a full refund or a free new date — your choice. Full policies here.

Is this tour operated by Eco Trip Asia directly?

Yes. Every tour on this site is operated by Eco Trip Asia (Vietnam Green Travel Co., Ltd), the licensed international tour operator — not resold through a third-party agency. Same vehicle, same guide, same insurance whether you book through hanoitour.tours or any OTA.

Where exactly in Hanoi does pickup happen?

Free hotel pickup is included in the Hanoi Old Quarter. Guests staying outside the Old Quarter can meet us at 46 Nguyen Huu Huan Street (our office) or at Hanoi Opera House. Pickup time is confirmed by WhatsApp the evening before.
