Quick answer
The Hanoi Jeep City Highlights Tour is a 2-hour open-air ride through the main sights of Hanoi in a restored Soviet UAZ-469 jeep. Covers the Old Quarter, Opera House, French Quarter and West Lake. Built for travellers with a short window — a layover, a half-day before a flight, a cruise schedule. Group $25, private $45. Operated by Eco Trip Asia.
Why we built this tour
This tour exists because of a question we got tired of answering wrong. "I only have the afternoon before my cruise leaves — can I still see Hanoi?" For years our answer was: not really; take a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake. That was a bad answer. People fly for sixteen hours and get to Hanoi and we were telling them to go for a walk.
So we timed it. Two hours is enough for the Old Quarter, the French Quarter, the Opera House and a stop at West Lake with a cup of egg coffee at a place that overlooks it. Two hours is not enough for Banana Island or Bát Tràng or anywhere across the river. We decided to be honest about the trade-off and build a short tour that is actually short.
It is the tour we recommend to anyone with a flight that evening, a cruise that afternoon, or a conference morning. It is also the tour we recommend to anyone travelling with a toddler who will nap after two hours of anything. We have led this tour at 8am with a sleeping baby in a parent's lap. The jeep is quiet enough.
What this tour means
A short tour is not a cheap tour. It is a tour that respects your schedule. Everyone we know who has done a long tour on a short day has either skipped the last stop in a hurry or missed their flight. We would rather deliver two hours well than four hours half-done.
The route is the compressed version of the half-day. We don't skip anything that matters. We skip the parts that need distance — the island, the countryside, the long lunch. If what you want is to say "I rode an open-air army jeep through the Old Quarter at golden hour and had an egg coffee overlooking West Lake," this tour is designed for exactly that sentence.

The experience
Two hours is enough for one piece of history, one piece of food, one piece of silence. The jeep gives you the first two inside the city; the lake stop gives you the third. Your guide knows how to pace it. If a train is passing on Train Street while you arrive, you will stop. If it isn't, we keep going.
Egg coffee at West Lake is the single thing we insist on, time permitting. It is a Vietnamese coffee drink invented in Hanoi in the 1940s during a milk shortage. The whipped yolk on top is thick enough to stand a chopstick in. We will tell you where to find more of it after the tour.
A day in the life

- Ba Dinh District — Drive past Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Presidential Palace, Ba Dinh Square and the National Assembly building.
- Tran Quoc Pagoda & West Lake — Photo stop at Hanoi's oldest Buddhist pagoda on its small island in West Lake.

Probably not for you if…

The soundtrack of this tour
Two hours in Hanoi is one slice of its sound. Early morning: knife-on-steel in food carts, broom on pavement, radio from a tea stall. Golden hour: traffic peak, scooters, horns, the Opera House bells. Evening: the Train Street crowd, lake music. You get one of these slices depending on your departure. All of them are the real Hanoi.

Frequently asked
What is the difference between the group and the private tour?
On the group tour you may share the experience with a few other travellers. The private tour is just for your party, with your own guide and vehicle, and the timing can be adapted to you.
Do we go inside the attractions?
No. This express tour drives past the main landmarks and stops for photos at Tran Quoc Pagoda, the B-52 relic and Long Bien Bridge. For a longer experience with food and Banana Island, choose our half-day Jeep city tour.
What happens if it rains?
Tours run in rain or shine. We provide rain ponchos, and your guide may adjust the order of stops to keep you comfortable. If we have to cancel because the weather makes the tour unsafe, you can move it to another date free of charge or choose a full refund. If the tour goes ahead and you decide not to join, the deposit is not refundable, but you can still change your date.
How much do children pay?
Children aged 5–8 pay 75% of the adult price and children under 5 join for free. From age 9 the adult price applies.
How do I book this tour?
Click the button at the bottom of this page. You will be taken to ecotripasia.com/hanoi-jeep-city-tour-2h/ — the operator's booking page. 15% deposit via PayPal (card or balance; 4% processing fee shown before paying). Balance in cash USD/VND or bank transfer on the tour day.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Date changes are free, subject to availability — your deposit transfers to the new date. If you cancel outright, the deposit is kept but your date can still be rescheduled. If we cancel for any reason (unsafe weather, government closures), you get a full refund or a free new date — your choice. Full policies here.
Is this tour operated by Eco Trip Asia directly?
Yes. Every tour on this site is operated by Eco Trip Asia (Vietnam Green Travel Co., Ltd), the licensed international tour operator — not resold through a third-party agency. Same vehicle, same guide, same insurance whether you book through hanoitour.tours or any OTA.
Where exactly in Hanoi does pickup happen?
Free hotel pickup is included in the Hanoi Old Quarter. Guests staying outside the Old Quarter can meet us at 46 Nguyen Huu Huan Street (our office) or at Hanoi Opera House. Pickup time is confirmed by WhatsApp the evening before.
