Quick answer

Why we built this tour

The Female Riders line started with a question about who drives, and the Street Food version answered a second question: who should decide where to eat. The food tour we had been running with jeeps worked, but the stops were curated by male guides who had their own list. Our female riders had their own list. They were not the same.

When we let a female guide design the route — three stops she grew up with, one her mother sends her to on paydays — the reviews climbed. It became our highest-rated tour. It is still our highest-rated tour.

Four hours, four plates, Hanoi's best bánh mì cart, a bowl of bún chả eaten standing up on a plastic stool, a sunset on Long Biên Bridge the city shows no one who does not know when to be there, a dinner at a place in a lane that would be impossible to find alone. All of it ridden on a silent electric scooter, driven by a Vietnamese woman wearing an áo dài, who grew up eating at every one of these stops.

What this tour means

Vietnamese women eat differently than Vietnamese men. Not better — differently. The stall selection is different. The time of day is different. The seating is different. For a long time food tours in Hanoi were curated by men because the industry hired men. We decided a tour curated by women deserved its own slot in our catalog.

Long Biên Bridge at sunset is the heart of the tour and the reason this is an evening-only departure. The bridge was built in 1902 by the French (Daydé & Pillé, the firm that also did parts of the Paris metro), bombed by American aircraft during the war and repaired in sections — some originals still intact, some new. Standing on it at sunset is standing in the middle of two centuries of Vietnamese transportation. We bring you here at the exact hour the sun is behind the river.

The experience

Four stops in four hours is the correct number. Standing-up stools. Plastic chopsticks. The guide tells you what to order; the woman at the stall tells you how to eat it. You will ask one of them about the chilli and they will both tell you no it isn't that spicy and you will decide for yourself.

Between stops the scooter is quiet. You can ask your rider personal questions she will answer. You can ask her political questions she will decline. If you are travelling alone you will arrive at Long Biên Bridge with the exact feeling the tour was built to produce: that you did not pay to be shown Hanoi, you paid to be in Hanoi.

A day in the life

Minute-by-minute, in the order it happens.

  1. Sunset & Banana Island — Golden hour on Long Bien Bridge, then fruit and tea with a riverside family.
  2. Banh Cuon — Rice rolls steamed in front of you, eaten on small stools like locals.
  3. Banh Mi — Vietnam's famous baguette, the way Hanoians eat it every day.
  4. French Quarter by night — Colonial streets and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum lit up after dark.
  5. Bun Cha & Train Street — A final plate of Bun Cha and a beer or coffee by the railway tracks.

Who it's for — and who it isn't

Yes, this is for you if…

  • Travellers who want the real street-food route, not the influencer one
  • Guests specifically asking for female guides and riders
  • Food lovers who want to eat standing up with locals, not seated with tourists
  • Solo travellers who would feel safer on the back of a female-driven scooter at night

Probably not for you if…

  • Travellers who have never been a passenger on a motorbike and are nervous (take the Jeep street food instead)
  • Guests with severe dietary restrictions we cannot plan around (please tell us at booking)
  • Anyone who wants a seated, air-conditioned, served-at-the-table dinner

The soundtrack of this tour

Street food Hanoi has one sound: oil in a wok, charcoal in a grill, a plastic stool dragged to the kerb. Everything else — traffic, horns, construction — is turned down because the electric scooter you are on is quiet. On Long Biên Bridge at sunset there is only the river, the trains and the person telling you the bridge is 1902. By the end you will remember the bánh mì. You will also remember the bridge.

Frequently asked

Who are the female riders?

Our riders are local Hanoi women trained and employed by Eco Trip Asia. Many guests — especially solo women travellers and families — tell us they feel relaxed and safe riding with them.

Are food and drinks included?

Yes — the food and drinks listed in the itinerary are included. Vegetarian and vegan options are available; just tell us about any dietary needs when you book.

Do I need a driving licence?

No. You ride as a passenger behind a professional local rider, so no licence or riding experience is needed. Helmets are provided.

What happens if it rains?

Tours run in rain or shine. We provide rain ponchos, and your guide may adjust the order of stops to keep you comfortable. If we have to cancel because the weather makes the tour unsafe, you can move it to another date free of charge or choose a full refund. If the tour goes ahead and you decide not to join, the deposit is not refundable, but you can still change your date.

How do I book this tour?

Click the button at the bottom of this page. If we cancel for any reason (unsafe weather, government closures), you get a full refund or a free new date — your choice. Full policies here.

Is this tour operated by Eco Trip Asia directly?

Yes. Every tour on this site is operated by Eco Trip Asia (Vietnam Green Travel Co., Ltd), the licensed international tour operator — not resold through a third-party agency. Same vehicle, same guide, same insurance whether you book through hanoitour.tours or any OTA.
